What if I approached you – where ever you are right now – and told you that, not only does someone know the exact plan for your entire life, but it’s better than you could possibly imagine? You’d probably think I’m insane. No one knows your future, right? Wrong. God knows the plan for your forever. All the little things you worry about, whether you’ll get into grad school or if you’ll be married with little ones one day – He knows. He knows your future, but you don’t. In fact, all you know is the here and now.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
I’m a hopeless romantic. For the majority of my life, I’ve had everything picked out – from my wedding dress to the exact vision of the man I would marry. I knew what college I wanted to go to (which I didn’t ever attend), where I wanted to live (where I’ve never lived), and exactly where I wanted to work (I never worked there). In fact, I spent so much time focusing on the future, that often I wasn’t even aware of the present – the here and now. This was partially due to the fact that the majority of my life was spent with my nose crammed in a book, but still, my life was passing me by and I was to focused on my destiny to actually participate.
Then something huge happened. I don’t know what caused it or why I was suddenly able to understand it, but I lived in the present – and it was the best experience of my life. I didn’t worry about my future, I was concerned with my mistakes. In fact, the only thing I was worried about was dancing in a pile of mud, eating brats from a hot dog stand and talking to strangers about the most random things. And – guys – this is the stuff that we need to be focusing on.
By no means do I want you to stop focusing on your relationship with God. Actually, that’s exactly what I don’t want you to do. When we put our faith in Him, He will never leave us. He has a plan that we have absolutely no control over. So put your faith in him for all things that are to come and enjoy your life while your living it. If you don’t, you might wake up one day to find the entire things passed you by.
