When Your Best Friend Is God

I talk to my best friend all day, every day. When I wake up in the morning – before anyone else is awake – I spend a few minutes catching up. At work, when I need a minute to think, I talk to him. When I’m driving down the road and just trying to get thoughts straightened out, I count on him. When the sun is shining brightly or when the storm clouds are rolling in, I let him know everything going on in my life. The best part about my best friend is I know he’ll always answer, I know he’ll never block me, and I know he wants to listen. See, my best friend loves me unconditionally, no matter how many times I ignore him, no matter what I look like and no matter what I say. My best friend is God.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give    thanks in all circumstances; for this is    God’s will for you  in Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Even though I talk to God every day, sometimes I forget to rejoice and be thankful for everything he does for me on a daily basis. Begin-and-end-each-day-with-a-grateful-heart.Sure, my life may have a lot of things that aren’t exactly on track right now, but – fortunately for me – there are more things that are going perfectly. For example, I have a home, I have air in my lungs and I’m not starving to death. Those, however, are just the basics.

I have friends and family who love and support me, no matter what. I live in a country where war is rarely present. I’m smart, I’m intelligent, I have a really good job… I mean, the list goes on and on. Yet, when things hit the fan, I just angry or annoyed with God. I guess the whole, “How could you let this happen?!?” mantra comes in to play. Sometimes, I forget that everything going wrong is really just another step in his plan for my life.

His plan for my life. Think about those words and apply them to your life. He has a perfect f7b08aef47d16fc4565200abad49b497plan for your life and, even though it may not always be fun, there will be countless blessings that come. I mean, if everything I listed above isn’t something that is happening in your life (first, I’m not sure how you’d be alive without air…), be thankful that the creator of the entire universe has a flawless plan for you. He’s had that plan since the beginning of time and it can’t change. He knows everything you are going to do and everything you have done, yet he loves you relentlessly. He listens to your worries and loves to hear your praises.

He listens to everything you say. He listens to your worries, but not only that – he takes on your worries so that you don’t have to deal with them. How amazing is it that he loves you so much that he doesn’t want you to deal with hardship? All you have to do is pray and give thanks, because – trust me – there is so much to be thankful for. Hell, if there’s nothing else, give thanks that – because he gave his only Son – you’re not on the highway to hell.

I guess, what I’m saying is, blow up his phone. Talk to him whenever you have the chance. Tell him everything; he wants you to because he loves you and wants to join you in your happiness and in your sadness. He’s there, he’s listening and, I assure you, he’s answering in the perfect way.

“Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good; His love endures forever.”  Jeremiah 33:11
